Eight simple reasons we’re still
the industry gold standard
WHENEVER I HAVE SPOKEN AT CHAPTERS, regional meeting and conferences over
the past few years, I’ve always included one
fact: The Appraisal Institute and its designations
enjoy an unbelievable amount of respect across
the globe.
While it is my face they see, the respect is
for the entire AI. This respect exists due to the
members’ actions and efforts over 77 years of
AI history.
Why do I bring this up? I have eight important
reasons.
FIRST. I want the membership to recognize
that their actions
throughout the
years have created
the respect and
recognition of the
AI brand, which is
thriving. Our very
name represents

ethics, quality education, quality publications,
competency and the public trust for real estate
valuation. Simply put, our brand stands for “the
best of the best.” With that recognition comes
a responsibility for actions.
SECOND. It is essential to understand that
future actions and efforts should adhere to the brand.
Every member should strive to produce an
everyday work product that is superior and that
reflects well on our brand. Every member has
a responsibility to contribute to the Appraisal
Institute for the brand to survive and thrive.
THIRD. All of us need to be reminded that 99
percent of the work performed by our organization
is produced by volunteer members and that they
play the most important role. Without those before
us who volunteered their time and talents, we
would not benefit from the brand we have today.
FOURTH. Our designations always have been
earned, never given away because of class or
social standing. To bestow a professional brand
