The value inside Valuation

editor TALK TO US What can Appraisal Institute do for you?
THE APPRAISAL INSTITUTE HAS INTRODUCED a variety of new publications and
communications vehicles in the past few months —
including our foray into social media, with
Facebook and Twitter accounts; online sharing,
with AI Communities of Practice; and a new monthly
e-newsletter, Residential Update, which launched
June 4. All of these are geared toward sharing news
stories with you, and allowing you to share them with
others. This allows Valuation magazine to reinvigorate
its mission to not only share our stories with you, but
also to share your stories (and insights) with others.
To that end, we introduce a new column in this
issue as well as offer various calls for submissions.
SOCIAL MEDIA: The AI’s Facebook and Twitter accounts allow us to keep members and other
appraisal professionals apprised of “real time”
developments at the Appraisal Institute and around
the profession. The five to seven weekly updates
highlight topics such as media coverage of the AI
and its members, AI testimony to legislators and
regulators, new AI website resources, education,
publications, and events and other breaking news.
Since the March 3 launch of the Appraisal
Institute’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, AI has
amassed nearly 1,000 fans and followers. For more
information, see page 39.
COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE: AI Communities is an online member benefit through which
members can exchange news and share information with colleagues, check a calendar of upcoming
events, participate in online discussion boards,
suggest a poll to community facilitators and chat
online with other members.
Since March, the Appraisal Institute has launched
seven new Communities of Practice, bringing to
nine the total number. Members may now engage
in discussions on technology, sus-
tainable buildings, international
valuation, tax valuation, eminent
domain, modular/systems-built and manufactured
housing, and appraising in declining markets.
