FILE UNDER “D” FOR DIGITAL
Evernote’s searchable Web-based archive is an all-in-one
solution for your digital-storage needs
Amid the countless gigabytes of e-mails, websites and other digital
debris that make up our increasingly plugged-in lives, it can be hard to
keep track of information that’s actually important to us. That’s where
Evernote comes in. A digital file cabinet of sorts, Evernote is an online
service — it’s cloud-based but also server-supported — that lets users
collect and store all things digital: documents, voice memos and other
audio files, Web content like screen-grabs, digital images, to-do lists and
more. Each such item, or “note,” added to your personal Evernote archive
is instantly and intuitively catalogued for easy future access, but you
can also further customize your indexing preferences. The contents of
your Evernote archive are accessible through both PCs and Macs or via
smart-phone applications, and any changes or updates automatically
self-synchronize across all platforms. Best of all, the service (up to
40 megabytes of storage a month) is totally free, though a more robust version is available
for a monthly or annual subscription fee.
