APPRAISAL INSTITUTE AND INDUSTRY NEWS
International Valuation Conference set
for June 8–11 in Ottawa, Ontario
Deep-sea explorer Joe MacInnis to keynote event
Registration is open for the 2017 International
Valuation Conference, which will feature keynoter
Dr. Joe MacInnis, a physician, scientist, author and
deep-sea explorer. The conference is being
co-hosted by the Appraisal Institute and the
Appraisal Institute of Canada, and will take place
June 8–11 at the Shaw Centre in Ottawa, Ontario.
A leadership and teamwork expert, MacInnis has
led or participated in more than 50 of the world’s
most important expeditions and has logged more
time beneath the surface of the Arctic Ocean than
any other scientist. He led the teams that made the
first science dives at the North Pole and that built
the world’s first polar undersea station, and he was
among the first to dive to the Titanic wreckage.
The International Valuation Conference also will
feature an exciting and diverse lineup of continu-
ing education (with the chance to earn AI and state
continuing education credit), networking opportu-
nities, an awards dinner, vendor exhibits and plenty
of options to explore beautiful Ottawa.
Hotels are filling quickly but are still accepting
room reservations. Note that U.S. passports that
expire before Dec. 8 should be renewed now
because response time averages six weeks. And
attendees should contact their mobile carriers to
ensure their phones will work in Canada.

AI to premiere
The Appraisal Institute will
premiere the “Uniform Appraisal
Standards for Federal Land
Acquisitions: Practical Applications” course April 20–21 in
Chicago, with other offerings
scheduled around the country.
The two-day course provides
a comprehensive review of
the Uniform Appraisal Standards
for Federal Land Acquisitions,
6th edition, as well as critical
instruction to those involved in
federal land acquisition valuation
assignments. The update to the
Uniform Appraisal Standards for
Federal Land Acquisitions was
released by the Interagency
Land Acquisition Conference in
December, and is the first update
to the standards since 2000.
