If you use an iPhone or an iPad, you’re probably aware that the calendar included in Apple’s iOS
has its limitations. Its most noticeable
shortcoming is its multistep process for
entering events. I’ve found a much better
option in Calendars 5, which is intuitive
and truly excels in the management of
tasks and events necessary to manage
business appointments and schedules.
Here are four reasons why Calendars 5
is an ideal task manager:
1. Natural Language Input
When making a calendar entry, simply
type it the way you ordinarily would
make a note; for example, “Go to client
site at 3pm.” The app will then interpret
your text and enter the information
into the calendar. You will find it much
quicker and easier than individually
having to enter the time, date and
reason for all your appointments and
2. View Days, Weeks and Months
The application makes it easy to get a
quick view of your upcoming events and
tasks, which are color-coded, and in the
calendar view, appear at the top of each
day with a checkbox. It’s easy to switch
bet ween daily, weekly, monthly, yearly
and task views so appraisers can quickly
view their schedules.
3. Recurring Events, Tasks
and Other Smart Features
Calendars 5 minimizes the number of keystrokes and swipe actions needed to enter
events and tasks. In fact, it takes just a single
tap or swipe to drag and drop tasks and events
and s witch bet ween daily or weekly schedules.
You begin entering events or tasks by
either tapping the “+” sign in the upper-right corner of the screen, or alternatively
tapping and holding on a time or date on the
main calendar. An event scheduler will then
appear and provide you with options for
entering locations and notes, inviting other
attendees and noting any other information
about your event. You also can choose to be
reminded of your events by various sounds,
email or text message.
As mentioned earlier, Calendars 5 is smart;
it will save you time by remembering frequently used and previously entered locations
and events, and then provide a list of likely
candidates as you’re typing.
An additional smart function provides you
with a map for the event. Simply tap the location icon in an active event and the location
will be mapped using Apple Maps; unfortunately, Calendars 5 doesn’t yet support Google
Maps or Bing.
4. iCloud Support
Calendars 5 allows you to create, edit and
delete events or tasks offline. All changes are
uploaded to your iCloud or Google Calendar
once your device is reconnected to the Internet.
Appraisers can feel comfortable that,
through iCloud, their events and tasks are all
synced with their iPad, iPhone and Google
Calendar. It doesn’t matter what iOS device
you’re using because your schedule is always
available — whether in the field, at the office or
in your home.
Calendars 5 is an excellent task manager; it
offers a smart, simple event-entry system;
it functions well with Google Calendar,
Apple’s Calendar and Reminders apps; and
it provides a simple interface that’s both
quick and easy to use.
I’ve used Calendars 5 for the past few
months and found its functionality to be
a significant upgrade in comparison with
Apple’s Calendar. And if you really like
Calendars 5 on your iPhone, you will love it
on your iPad.
Calendars 5 can be purchased for $6.99
in the i Tunes App Store for use with
iPhones or iPads ( https://itunes.apple.com/us/
app/id697927927?mt= 8 ).
